We are an OPAL in Progress school
Our school is proud to be working towards accreditation with the Outdoor Play and Learning (OPAL) Primary Programme, and we hope to achieve full accreditation by the end of the summer term 2026. OPAL is built on a simple but powerful belief: that every child has the right to play, and that good quality play is essential to their happiness, development and wellbeing.
As part of this journey, we are moving away from a culture of eliminating risk towards one of understanding risk-benefit — recognising that children need opportunities to climb, balance, get messy and test their own limits in order to grow in confidence, resilience and physical competence. Our children are directly involved in shaping their play spaces, from choosing new resources to feeding back through pupil voice, so that play at our school genuinely reflects what they want and need.
We are already seeing the benefits: children returning to lessons calmer, more focused and better able to manage friendships and emotions, alongside richer, more imaginative and more inclusive play at lunchtimes and breaktimes. We look forward to sharing our progress with you as we work towards full OPAL accreditation.
