Governing Bod

Graham Bone – Chair of Governors/Independent governor

I have been a secondary school teacher since 2000 and I am currently the Deputy Head (Co-curricular, Compliance and Digital) at Exeter School. I am a physics specialist, but have also taught the other sciences, geography, maths and computer science. Outside of the classroom, I have an active interest in all aspects of outdoor education, and I am a qualified Duke of Edinburgh Award assessor. I live in Exeter and enjoy walking, cycling and tinkering with technology, especially early computers. I joined the governing body at Alphington in 2024 and became Chair in October 2024.

Caroline Ellis- independent governor/safeguarding governor:

I am an Assistant Head at Badminton School in Bristol where I am also a Deputy Designated Safeguarding Lead and a teacher of Computer Science. I have an MSc in Computer Science with Cybersecurity. Before this, I worked in Cornwall at one of the largest Secondary Schools as Head of Computer Science for over 12 years. I live between Bristol and my home in Alphington where my stepchildren both went to school. I am an experienced horse rider and enjoy long walks with our dog.

Sharon Tarr, Headteacher:

As Headteacher of Alphington Primary School, my role is to work alongside the governing body to ensure children are given the best possible education during their time with us.

Anjumn Kanani, Independent Governor:

I am a retired civil engineer and have been a resident of Alphington since 1991.  My children attended Alphington Primary School. Following my retirement earlier this year, I volunteered to become a Governor as this gives me the opportunity to contribute.


Jennifer Pulsford- Parent governor

I was elected as a parent governor in 2023 and my children are currently in the preschool and school. I have worked within HR in various industries for my whole career and am excited to bring my passion for providing an inclusive working environment where people can thrive to my role as a governor. I hope to be a positive link between the parents and the school to ensure that we all feel involved in our children’s education.

Vicky Jones- Staff governor

I work full-time at Alphington as the pastoral support advisor. I have joined the governing body as I am committed to being a part of the school’s ongoing development and wish to help provide an environment in which all children can thrive.

Jacquie Barnes: Community Governor

I am a Learning Support Specialist at Exeter College and have over 20 years of teaching experience, including responsibilities for mathematics, Teaching and Learning, PSHE, trainee teachers and new teachers. It is a real honour to be a community Governor for Alphington Primary School, having joined the board in 2024. Previously, I worked for British Airways in recruitment, assessment, training and performance, after completing an MSc in Occupational Psychology. I live in Exeter, enjoy singing and swimming and am also a trained swimming teacher.

Samantha Curless – Community Governor

My children currently attend Alphington Primary School, and I am pleased to join the governing body. As a teacher, I have taught in a variety of secondary school contexts and care about all children receiving a high-quality education and developing both academically and emotionally. I look forward to contributing to the strategic direction of the school in securing positive outcomes for pupils.
